The PLHS Alumni Association is now the PLHS Foundation/Alumni
Association. We still maintain all alumni contact records for PLHS and help
your reunion chair by offering access to that information for class events.
In addition, if you choose, we will keep you informed about what is happening
at PLHS and let you know about exciting events for all alumni.
Breaking News for Pointer Alumni!!
The brand new PLHS Graduate Connections database site has just
been launched!!! For many years PLHS Alumni Association has partnered with
Harris Connect to help us maintain and update our database of over 34,000 Pointer
alumni records. Periodically we use Harris’s resources to help us gather
current contact information and find ‘lost’ Pointers. Now Harris
offers a secure on-line site that is a bit like ‘Classmates’ and ‘My
Space’ combined, but it is just for Pointers. It allows us to keep our
alumni contact records current more efficiently. And it allows you to update
your contact information, post a bio, check for reunion information, and connect
with other Pointer Alumni (for an extra measure of security we verify each
person who signs in to assure they really are a Pointer!) If you did not receive
an email from us announcing this great new site it means we do not have a current
email address for you.
Go to www.graduateconnections.com/pointloma and sign in to the
database site. We will verify your status as a Pointer send you your registration
code. Then you can go into the site anytime you want and update your contact
information, set up a personal page, add pictures, and post class notes. For
a small fee you can have full access to all of the features the site offers
including the ability to network with other Pointers. (Note that the Foundation
and Alumni Association does not receive any of the Graduate Connections site
administration fee, and joining the On Line Community is not connected to Membership
status in the PLHSFAA which must be done separately.)
In addition to maintaining the
Alumni Database, the PLHSFAA provides other important services for PLHS. Membership
in the PLHSFAA allows us to continue to provide funds for programs and activities
that benefit current and future Pointers. We encourage Alumni to show their
pride and support for their alma mater by becoming members of the PLHSFAA.
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and membership and additional contributions
are tax deductible as allowed by law.
Funds raised by the FAA go to support scholarships for students
headed to college, grants to the staff and departments, on-campus
programs and student activities.
In addition, the Foundation has approved funding for several other programs
and initiatives this year: Digital Classrooms to provide technology for hands-on
use in the classrooms; much needed upgrades to the Performing Arts
Center,
and a new state-of-the-art Music Center for the growing music
program at
PLHS. Donations to the Underfunded Athletics program provide much needed support
for coaches and sports that are threatened by budget cuts. In Spring of 2007
we completed Phase 1 of our SCAPE (Safe Clean Attractive Place for Education)
Landscape project….providing a safer entrance to the school. Phase
2 will beautify the street side of the campus. (Commemorative bricks are
being
sold to help fund this program. Go to SCAPE on the website for more information.)
We also oversee and facilitate Parent Booster groups which are a valuable
source of fund-raising for Athletics and extracurricular activities.
We encourage you to come take a look at the PLHS campus….we
have recognition pavers in the Quad, several new buildings, Prop MM upgrades,
and a lot
of enthusiasm and spirit on campus. Alumni are always welcome! Tours can
be arranged by special
appointment. Bring a group of high school friends and re-live some memories.
Please consider becoming a member of the Foundation and Alumni
Association. The minimum Membership Contribution is $35 per year or you may
consider
upgrading to a Maroon member ($75), Gold Member ($125), Lighthouse
Member ($125) or
Pointer Pride Member ($500+). Of course, a donation of any amount is
appreciated and
welcome. We will put it to good use and we will keep you informed about
alumni events and on campus programs. Go to our membership
page to
join us.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at the FAA office
619-226-4509, or by email at FAAoffice@plhsfaa.org.
(Our office has been moved off campus.)
Sincerely,
Kim Melhorn (Class of 73) Jessop
